Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 1, 2018

U16 Girls – Vermont vs Bayswater.

Welcome and thank you to all the girls who have trained and played football with us on Sunday. A special thank you to the girls from the U14’s who filled in for us. I’m looking forward to a great year ahead with these girls as they grow and develop into a team together.

Despite a scoreboard which didn’t really reflect our effort on Sunday, the girls performed really well against a well drilled team, who have been playing together as a group for some time. I know we will all learn from this match far more than we realise now.

The weather created a challenge so that we have not been able to train in wet and slippery conditions, due to the hot dry weather. The ball was sliding along the ground for a lot of the time, as marks were spilled due to the slippery conditions. Despite this some girls did manage to mark the ball and had some amazing long accurate kicking.

There were several individual performances which showed, that we have a lot to look forward to in coming weeks as we grow and develop more with skills and our individual attitudes. With this development growth our game plan and our style of play will evolve.

Overall with this group of girls there are some who are just starting out with just learning to kick and handball, whist there are others who have a little more experience and are trying to help the new girls out and showing the way forward.

Last week the girls voted for the team leaders, and the captain for this year is Chloe with Erin as Vice-captain and Darcy as deputy vice-captain. Congratulations girls.

This year we are proud to have Craig as our trainer looking after the girl’s injuries and patching them up. For Mandy as manager and keeping on top of all events, co-ordination, the organisation of the games, the uniforms, training gear, but most importantly the girls. Thank you Andrew for assisting me in the coach’s box, with our first game. Thank you to our water boys, boundary umpire, time keepers and umpire escort. Thank you Mark for being our runner. A great effort by all on a very wet day.

I’m really grateful for the feedback and the input the parents are having and I really appreciate all the help I’m getting from the parents at training and during the game. Even when the girls go home, I know it’s the parents who have been and will be driving them to/from training and turning up on game day. So a big THANK YOU to all the parents from me.

Thank you also goes out to our president, secretary and all the committee members who have been organising for many months in the back ground to allow this to happen.

Injury list
Emily P, is still out with a hand injury and may not be available for a few more weeks.
During the game one of our girls got badly injured during a tackle and had to be transported via ambulance to hospital with injuries. I am glad to hear that all the reports coming back to me indicate that she will recover and with time will be able to return to training and the game. We all wish you the best Kayla and we are thinking of you.

With this in mind would all parents please ensure the club is fully informed of all medication required, any allergies or injuries and I encourage you to fill in the “Care Monkey” for any medical emergencies which can, but hopefully won’t happen.
“Let’s be prepared”
It’s with great pride that despite having very few numbers from time to time and with the loss of several players this year, that we are still able to field a side this year.

That’s all from me!
Thank you to everyone who made this happen!

Regards
Paul Leonard
U16 Girl’s Coach
