Match Report – Under 11 – Round 1, 2018
U11 Boys – Bayswater vs Blackburn Red.
A wet and cold start to our new season, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of our Under 11s. The boys have been up against it already this year with our numbers quite low, but their enthusiasm and commitment has been first class. This attitude certainly held them in good stead for our first game of the year.
Beginning with 14 players (with thanks to Josh from our Under 9s for helping out again), we borrowed three players from Blackburn in the first half. The boys were very welcoming, and the attitude of the Blackburn boys was also first rate.
The first half was a real wet weather slog, but the boys stuck to the task and followed their instructions to keep their eye on the ball, body in behind, and keep it moving forward. Their tackling and pressure was nothing short of excellent. We gained an early slender lead thanks to first half goals from Blake and Joel that came on the back of some great teamwork, and went in to half time leading by 13 points.
The second half was an even tougher slog as we were down on numbers, tiring, and getting wetter and colder. However, the spirit of these Under 11s really shone through. Every single player followed their instructions, played together and for each other, and in the end we came away with a well-deserved and hard fought 5 point victory against a very good opponent.
A really fantastic team effort and a great start to our year.
A big thanks to Blackburn for giving us 8 players over the course of the game to help us out.
