Match Report – Under 12 Girls – Round 3, 2019
U12 Girls – Vermont vs Bayswater
Kendall Rogers captained the girls for our round three away match against Vermont. We had 15 players and Vermont had 21 on the day. This resulted in us borrowing a different three opposition players for each quarter so we could play 18 on each side and play a full ground. A slow start to the game for our girls as we were down 26 – 0 at quarter time.
Rotating all the girls for the second quarter may have helped as we held Vermont to just one point. Continuing the rotations for the second half and a real emphasis on tackling helped our girls to hold Vermont goalless for the second half as they could only manage another six behinds. Final score Vermont 33, Bayswater 0.
A real team approach and even spread of contributors made a game that may have seemed one sided on the scoreboard look more even on the ground. First year players such as Acacia and Gemma gained confidence by getting their hands on the footy. Tori and Skye battled really hard all day in the ruck, often giving away a height advantage to their opponent, but following up when the ball hit the ground by tackling and protecting the on ballers. Some big time tackles by Matilda and last line of defence efforts from Kiara were a stand out in the last quarter.
Our training drills are starting to show in the games with the girls leading into space and calling for the ball, then running to help each other at a contest. Another tough game will be expected in round four, however with great attitudes and commitment to each other I’m sure the girls will give it their best efforts.
