Match Report – Under 12 Girls – Round 5, 2019

U12 Girls – Bayswater vs Upper Ferntree Gully

A tough first up game in division two against Upper Ferntree Gully. We didn’t get off to the greatest of starts and were scored heavily against in the first and second quarters. The girls responded very well in the second half to minimise the impact the opposition had on the scoreboard and whilst we had the ball in our forward line most of the third quarter, we couldn’t get it across the line for a score.

Our third quarter was a real positive as we won the first centre clearance and were on top most of the quarter thanks to a big effort from our on ballers Hailey, Matilda and Grace. We tackled well and earnt plenty of free kicks. Our captain for the day Skye, rucked against taller opposition and battled hard despite being injured early in the game. Acacia and Elena taking marks and getting involved in defence were great team lifting acts. Scores at the end of the game UFG 49, Bayswater 0.

Five rounds into the season and for 10 of our 17 players that’s five games or less of footy to their names. Despite the scores, the girls are committing to training, still having fun and improving their skills whilst learning the game. Our target now is to get a few scores on the board!! Stay positive, get behind the girls, it will happen.
