Match Report – Under 12 – Round 7, 2019

U12 – Rowville Knights vs Bayswater

Round 7 saw us take on the top side in undefeated Rowville, and right from the start we saw why they’re the top team. They quickly showed us how to play good, fast moving team football, and our boys were often second to the ball and doing a lot of chasing. We therefore found ourselves well down at half time and had only managed to score 1 point – half time scores were 5.4 34 to 0.1.1.

As a team we talked about what wasn’t working for us, and the boys all identified a lack of talk, and a fear to be first. It was great to hear the boys identify what we needed to work on.

The second half, as has become our custom, saw a different side emerge after the break. A few positional moves also saw some of our more experienced players get more involved, and we started to see some benefit on the scoreboard. The boys also realised that ladder positions and reputation don’t really mean a lot in football – the result of the game will always depend on your workrate, concentration, and focusing on the important skills. We found that when we play to our strengths, and play as a team, we can match it with anyone. Hopefully this will give the boys some confidence for the rest of the season. A special mention for a great, tough captain’s game from Jackson Peters in his 50th game for the club.

Final Scores:

  • Rowville Knights 7.8.50
  • Bayswater 5.3.33

Goal kickers: Jamie Gilchrist 4, Jackson Peters 1
Best Team Players: Jamie Gilchrist, Jackson Peters, David Derham, Owen Prior
