Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 8, 2019

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs Forest Hill

Our Round 8 game was at home, on a fantastic day for footy. Unfortunately, we had quite a few players unavailable. Em CT and Em Prior out with broken fingers, Jaslyn with a sore neck, and Chya unable to play. A third of our team were made up of U14s, including newcomers Claire and Mikybie, as well as regulars Rana, Renee and Torey. With both our captains (Em Prior and Jaslyn) out, Rhian stepped up to the plate to captain the side, ably supported by Chloe.

With so many players out, we threw the team around a bit this week, and tried to rotate players through the center regularly. Forest Hill got off to a really good start, kicking four goals in the first quarter, while we managed only one point. Our second quarter was much more competitive, with Jordan, Elise and Sienna kicking a goal each, and our backline holding Forest Hill to just two goals. We fell away in the second half, with the final margin similar to the last time we played, although we kicked some goals this time. Our senior players stood up well, in particular Rhian, Chloe and Sienna. Chenoa and Charli both competed hard as usual in different roles, with Chenoa having a run in the middle, and Charli all over the ground, including pinch-hitting in the ruck. Our U14s were once again solid contributors, with neither Claire nor Mikybie looking at all overawed playing in their first U16s game.

With Em CT and Em Prior out for a while, thankfully we had no further injuries during the game. Forest Hill ran out winners 3.1-19 to 11.14-80.

Thank you to our U14s Claire, Mikybie, Rana, Renee and Torey, water carriers Em CT and Em Prior, trainer Jodie and team manager Mandy, assistant coach and runner Ben, and our other parent helpers on the day.
