Match Report – Under 12 – Round 11, 2019

U12 – Bayswater vs Boronia

Another game, another tough contest for our Under 12 boys! This time, a Boronia team who have been improving each week. The game began as we had expected, with the quick, skillful Boronia players making it hard for some of our boys to play the running football we have gotten used to. The wet, cold weather didn’t help much either! The boys stuck to their guns, though, and although neither team could really get control, it was pleasing that we were able to stay in the game and gradually get our noses in front. Much like the North Ringwood game from the week before, we found it hard work, and after leading by 10 points at quarter time, we found ourselves three points down at half time.

I asked the boys to think about what had happened and why we found ourselves behind, and again it was very pleasing to hear them identify where we could improve – lack of talk, lack of team-related efforts (eg. tackling, shepherding), and not enough focus in the conditions.

This resulted, I think, in a much better second half. It was really pleasing to see the efforts improve, especially in the face of a couple of boys not feeling well in the weather and needing a rest in the third quarter. Luckily for us they came back in the last quarter, and after leading by 7 points at 3/4 time, the boys really applied themselves and ran away with a good win. Let’s hope we can keep it up, boys!
