U12 Girls Rd2 Match Report…

A home game with much better weather greeted us for our round two game against Boronia. We had 17 players, while Boronia were only able to start the game with 11. We evened up the numbers as best we could as Boronia had two extra girls arrive late in the first quarter. Our captains for this round were Remi and Charlie.

In light of the opposition being short at the start of the game, we were able to get off to a great start and boot six first quarter goals. We finished the game strong with four goals in the last quarter. In both the first and last quarter Skye and Shaylee were too strong for Boronia and won a lot of the centre clearances. Shaylee was rewarded for her efforts with 5 goals for the game!

Whilst it was great to see first goal kickers in Shayla, Jade and Caitlyn (well done girls) it was quite often the work of the girls around the ground that helped our team score. We instruct the girls to be first to the ball and then be strong to pick it up, even when under pressure. At times when Boronia looked to have more numbers around the ball, it was fantastic to see Ruby, Ava and Carly pick up the ball and absorb the pressure until team mates arrive.

The end score was Bayswater 75 to Boronia 0. We know there will be tougher games to come, and that’s a great challenge for this team.
