U12 Girls Rd6 Match Report…

A sunny morning for our round six match away against Heathmont.  We were able to play 17 against 17 which meant we had two players on our bench.  Captains for todays game were Keely and Ava.

We won the toss and kicked to the dominant scoring end on a relatively small ground.  Shaylee was fantastic early getting the ball forward from the centre bounce and we were able to kick a couple of early goals to get us off to a great start.  A nice mark in front of goal and straight kick from Ella was a highlight.

In the second quarter, Heathmont were able to kick a few goals of their own to even up the contest.  We fought hard, however watched a couple of nice kicks from the opposition go long and straight through the goals.

The wind definitely played a part keeping the scoring to one end and we had quite a few opportunities in the third quarter to score, however it was a very congested forward line.  A similar scenario played out in the last quarter as we defended gallantly as our opposition could only seem to kick points.  Some good, long kick outs by Charlie to Skye was evidence of the older girls experience and skills.  Unfortunately, Heathmont kicked the only goal of the final quarter with less than two minutes to go, and took a five point lead, that would be the end result.

Probably the best contest of the season for our girls, but another good learning experience.  Some things we can take from this game include knowing when to rush a behind and how a ground and conditions can play a part in the outcome in match of footy.  We will work hard on continuous effort and skills at training, whilst learning more about the game.

Final score for todays game Heathmont 34 to Bayswater 29
