U12 Mixed Match Report
Round 1
vs Beaconsfield - April 6 2025
🟡🟢 Round 1 Match Report 🟢🟡
We kicked off the season against Beaconsfield on a beautiful sunny day for footy. And what an exciting way to start by celebrating two 50 game players. Congratulations to Hamish and Anmar on this fantastic achievement, you have both been fantastic to coach over the years and a pleasure to have as part of the team. It was so exciting to see you both run through your banners and lead the team on to the field after we acknowledged your achievement pregame with a milestone medal presentation. A huge thank you to Shaun for being involved as has become tradition on these occasions, and sharing some words for the boys as part of this.
To add to the occasion Hamish was our captain for the game after celebrating his birthday on the 5th. With both teams a little short for numbers we were playing a 16 v 16 game. This gave us an opportunity to consider some different tactics in how we would set up our forward and back lineups. We made a decision to run without a centre half forward to open up space for our mids to run through and our full forward to lead up. It was so exciting to see off the very first ball up our 3 mids Brodie, Caleb and Levi F streaming forward into that space sharing the ball between them.
We didn’t stop there, dominating the first quarter with 7 goals 2 behinds to no score for Beaconsfield. This provided us the opportunity to switch players around to try a few different things and to give players the opportunity to get some experience in different positions.
By half time the game was won so we changed our tactics again and moved our 50 gamers into the forward line with the plan to try and get them each a goal. We were able to help Hamish slot one after just missing earlier with a poster, and provided Anmar with a few opportunities but in tricky situations for him to convert.
We were absolutely thrilled to see what we have been working on this preseason start to come to life in the game. Players were clearly looking to find teammates in a better position and using handballs to move the ball while maintaining control. This and the clear intention to play team first footy really stood out and Gordon and I are very proud of the team.
A big thanks to Dan Robb for being our runner, Julie for keeping us organised and Luke for taking care of the kids, thank you all for your support.
Thanks to our parent helpers on the day, Levi T, Emmalee and Aadhi’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to sing the song as a team, with our 50 gamers Hamish and Anmar in the middle of the circle getting a light squirt of water. I’m looking forward to the chance to celebrate further milestones with the team this season. Great win team, well done!
Go Baysie.
Round 2
vs Croydon - April 27 2025
🟡🟢 Round 2 Match Report 🟢🟡
After a few weeks break for school holidays and Easter, we were back for round 2 against Croydon. It was a great team game, played in the spirit of the ANZACs as we saw great teamwork and hard work ethic throughout the game.
Our captain for the game was Caleb who led the team well for this special round. Congratulations also to Caleb on being awarded the ANZAC medal by the Croydon coach as the best and fairest player on the ground for our team.
It was a really hard fought game and there didn’t seem to be much separating the teams throughout. After a sluggish start in the first quarter we seemed to be in control but just not taking our opportunities when in control of the ball. After discussing this at quarter time there was a shift right away with us taking care of the ball when in possession and moving the ball in a controlled way to ensure we were able to score well and we opened up a nice lead. By three quarter time we had a nice 5 goal lead so changed a few things around to continue to learn different roles for the team. Croydon finished really strong in the last quarter and came back well. We still managed to get a nice win by a couple of goals and learnt a little bit about our team in the last.
A big thank you to Josh O, who even though he couldn’t be out there playing he still did his part for the team helping me in the coaches box as Assistant Coach for the game in Gordon’s absence.
Thanks to our parent helpers on the day, Josh O, Levi F, and Archer’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to sing the song as a team after the win, let’s keep working on playing well as a team and continuing to improve as the season goes on.
Go Baysie!
Round 3
vs Rowville Knights - May 4 2025
🟡🟢 Round 3 Match Report 🟢🟡
Round 3 we were up against the Rowville Knights, and it was another special game with us celebrating the 50 game milestone for Levi T, congrats Levi what a fantastic achievement! We were also fortunate to celebrate a new player with Lincoln playing his first game for the club, well done and welcome to Lincoln and his family.
We had 2 experienced players captaining us this week and knew we’d be in good hands with Jacob and Josh B leading the way. Being a little short on numbers again this week, we had Randall and Phoenix filling in, thank you both you certainly didn’t look out of place playing up a couple of age groups and had some great moments throughout the game.
Whilst it wasn’t our best game this week, we certainly continue to show that we are up to the level after moving up a grade this season. It was close the whole way through and even on an off day, we stuck at it to only lose by a point. There were times in the game where we thought we didn’t have our usual intensity, but reflecting on this Gordon and I have been considering over the last couple of weeks making more rotations, particularly through the middle of the ground with longer quarters this season. We’ll try to adjust as we go through the season to ensure we’re setting the players up to be their best.
Despite the loss, we still showed some great signs of improvement in our game. There were a number of passages of play where we controlled the ball in congestion with quick handballs and some great plays of moving the ball to players in space with kicking and marking. When we asked for a lift in intensity we saw some great moments of those one percenters, with shepherding improving throughout the game and a real match turner of a moment with Angus laying a huge chase down tackle in the forward pocket and earning the free.
Overall we are very proud of the kids, particularly the manner in which they play the game, they really are a great bunch. They should all hold their heads high knowing that we have been very competitive to start the season and I’m sure as the season goes on other teams will see exactly what we’re capable of.
Thanks to our parent helpers on the day, Ben, Levi F and Caleb’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
We play our first home game for the season next week against our main rival from last season, so let’s reset and get ready to turn up strong for a big game.
Go Baysie!
Round 4
vs Lysterfield - May 11 2025
🟡🟢 Round 4 Match Report 🟢🟡
How lucky have we been this season, another milestone game for us to celebrate, that’s 3 of the 4 games so far! Congratulations ‘Latte’ on reaching the 50 game milestone, what a great achievement. And for the second game in a row we welcomed a new player to the team. Welcome Jack and family, it’s great to have you as part of the club.
We were led by our captain for the game Wes, in a big Grand Final rematch, so we knew it was going to be a tough game and Lysterfield would be hungry to get the job done after we had the better of them all last season. With the results so far this season it seemed as though Lysterfield had added some quality players to their list and it definitely showed on the day. Whilst it wasn’t our best game and the effort wasn’t quite up to our usual standard that we pride ourselves on, I don’t think anyone could have imagined the game panning out like it did.
We’ll move on though and focus on improving as the season continues, as we have always done. There were still positives to take away from the game, with Josh O returning from injury and we thought that we had players show improvement and play their best games in very challenging circumstances.
Thanks to our parent helpers on the day, Angus, Lincoln, Anmar, Wes and Ben’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
Whilst we didn’t get to sing the song as a team to celebrate with Archer, it was still great to see the kids enjoy the occasion, and as is our tradition soak him with water after the game. Let’s continue working at training and improve throughout the season.
Go Baysie!
Round 5
vs Noble Park - May 18 2025
🟡🟢 Round 5 Match Report 🟢🟡
Needing to respond after a few off weeks, we were up against Noble Park in round 5 so we knew we were in for another tough game after playing them in round 1 last season. We were led out by Anmar as captain who made the call for us to kick into the breeze to start off, meaning we’d have the advantage in the last quarter.
Gordon and I were absolutely thrilled with the overall effort by the team, the response after the last couple of games where we felt we’d lost a bit of our DNA to be harder at the contest and the ball. The effort throughout was great to see, and to play the game on our terms and control the game to suit our game style was really pleasing.
Our pressure around the ball and contested play was a real strength for us and it’s great to see improvements in individual players who continue to grow week after week. With the new additions to our team now starting to find their place we were able to make a few positional changes in this game to add some speed across our half back line and on the wings to try and implement our running game which we’ve been working on at training so far this season. Whilst we didn’t see the full impact in this game there were some really positive signs of what could be if we stick to it and build this part of our game.
Thanks to our parent helpers on the day, Emmalee, Levi T, Angus, Anmar and Lincoln’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to sing the song as a team again after a couple of losses. Let’s keep working as a team and improving as the season continues.
Go Baysie!
Round 6
vs Chirnside Park - May 25 2025
🟡🟢 Round 6 Match Report 🟢🟡
We were up against Chirnside Park in round 6, and lucky to be celebrating another milestone game. Congratulations Jacob on reaching the 50 game milestone, what a great achievement.
We were led by Aadhi as captain, and knew we were up against a tough opponent after playing them in a close match in the pre-season. The game was a tale of two halves, with us absolutely dominating the first half, playing easily the best footy we had ever played, but was followed with a big second half comeback by Chirnside Park, which we were able to hold off and get a good win.
Gordon and I were absolutely thrilled with the way we linked up by handball and moved the ball so cleanly which we’ve been working on this season. There were a number of comments made by parents and supporters of the opposition about how clean and good our ball movement was. It looked seriously impressive, and if we continue to get better in this area, along with maintaining our strong defense and the way we play with grit and determination, we’ll be a serious threat to the competition.
It was a real tough, hard fought game, with our players showing real strength and bravery in the contest. There were some big hits and lots of bench rotation as we tried to ensure our players were ok. Josh O showed real determination going back in the contest copping a huge hit. We’re glad to hear he is ok, and look forward to having him back out there with us.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Aadhi, Josh O, Mitchell, Caleb, and Angus’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to sing the song as a team again, ice creams in hand to celebrate Aadhi’s birthday and with Jacob in the middle to celebrate his 50th. Well done team.
Go Baysie!
Round 7
vs North Ringwood - June 1 2025
🟡🟢 Round 7 Match Report 🟢🟡
Our round 7 match was away against North Ringwood. With the competition seeming to be very even this season we knew it was going to be a tough game, particularly with North Ringwood being a strong opponent in the past.
We were led out by our captain Josh O, and got off to a strong start holding onto a close lead at the end of the first quarter. There was some real excitement when Jack took a great mark in front of goal and converted with a beautiful kick to get his first goal, it was a real highlight to see the team get around him with excitement and joy.
The game then got away from us after quarter time, with North Ringwood being a very physical team seeming to put us off our game. They were much stronger in the contest, particularly in the air, and first to the ball more often on the ground. We really struggled to hold our tackles and they moved the ball really well once breaking through our defense then running into space and moving the ball quickly, exposing our back line far too often. Hamish was admirable on the last line of defense playing a really strong game and putting pressure on to cause them to miss some goals that they probably expected to kick, well done Hamish.
Congratulations to Jackson on playing his first game. Once he got out there he showed some real speed and great attack on the contest. I’m really excited to see what he can add to our team. Welcome Jackson and family, it’s great to have you as part of the club.
Thank you also to Frankie and Eamon from the U11’s for helping us out today. With players coming off sore at times it was great to have some additional bench depth and you both played your roles well and played really good games.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Archer, Ben and Caleb and Levi F’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
I know that when we face them again we’ll put in a much stronger performance. We were not at our best today, but we’ll get back to working on our game at training and focus on improving throughout the season.
Go Baysie!
Round 8
vs East Burwood - June 15 2025
🟡🟢 Round 8 Match Report 🟢🟡
We were back at our home ground for our round 8 match against East Burwood, with some extra excitement and anticipation for our planned event after the game to complete the Ice Bucket Challenge as a team in support of Fight MND.
We were led out by Emmalee and Lincoln as captains in what turned out to be a very competitive and well played game. Each team had their moments and although East Burwood got away from us a little, in the end it was a much closer match than what the score might suggest and we definitely showed glimpses of what our best footy can be.
We shuffled the magnets a little in this game to accommodate some injuries and illness, and it was great to see players who changed roles, taking the opportunity and showing a lot of potential. Wes was having a fantastic game after being shifted behind the ball in Ben’s absence due to illness, and was playing an absolute ripper game until being injured and unfortunately having to sit out the rest of the game. Brodie took an opportunity to get back in the middle and added some real dash and dare which has been missing from his game this season but it was exciting to see it back. Jack took responsibility up forward with Wes changing roles and showed some glimpses of what he can bring to the team, getting to really dangerous positions on the goal side of the opposition.
A huge thank you to Randall for helping us out and filling in today, he had a huge impact on the game particularly early on and we thought he might have been best on up until half time. A shout out to Levi for getting out on the field, despite facing some discomfort with his injuries he was still willing to get out there and help the team as much as he could, what fantastic team spirit, well done Levi!
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Levi F, Angus, Levi T, Josh O and Mitch’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
We may not have got the result we were after in the game, but this round was certainly one of the best memories I’ve had as part of this team. The incredible effort of you all to get behind a cause and raise $3793 for FightMND is just incredible. I’m so proud of the team for coming together and showing some great community spirit. The event itself was so much fun and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
Go Baysie!
Round 9
vs Croydon - June 22 2025
🟡🟢 Round 9 Match Report 🟢🟡
Another special occasion for our team, with us celebrating with Emmalee for her 50 game milestone. Congratulations Emmalee on this fantastic achievement, you have been fantastic to coach over the years and a pleasure to have as part of the team. It was so exciting to see you run through your banner and lead the team onto the field after we acknowledged your achievement pregame with a milestone medal presentation. A huge thank you to Shaun for preparing some words and for Lyndal for sharing with us as well.
It was so exciting to have Chase run out with the team for the first time as well. Welcome to the team Chase and family, we’re thrilled to have you join us.
The game was a relatively even contest throughout with us only holding a one goal advantage at the first break. We lifted in the second quarter however to really put the game in our hands with a 5 goal to nothing quarter. Similarly to when we played them earlier in the season Croydon responded really well and had the better of us in the second half. However, we managed to hold them off and come away with a good win.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Wes, Lincoln, Anmar, Caleb and Aadhi’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to sing the song as a team, celebrating 50 games with Emmalee, followed by our tradition of drenching the 50 gamer with water. With this win we’ve managed to get back into the top four. Let’s keep working on our game and if we can continue to improve, hopefully we can lock a position in the finals again.
Go Baysie!
Round 10
vs Rowville Knights - June 29 2025
🟡🟢 Round 10 Match Report 🟢🟡
Another very special game for our team with us celebrating with Fred for his 50th game, what a fantastic achievement, well done Fred! You always acknowledge the coaches and volunteers which is greatly appreciated and it’s been a pleasure to coach you over the years. It was so exciting to see you run through your banner and lead the team on to the field after your milestone medal presentation. A huge thanks to Shaun for being involved again and sharing some words for Fred.
We were led on the field by Ben and Latte as captains. We knew it was going to be a tough competitive game after going down by 1 point earlier in the season to Rowville and that’s what panned out. It was a real arm wrestle with both teams having patches of momentum, but the difference in the end was that Rowville were able to use the ball more effectively going forward and we really struggled to convert our chances to score. The scoreboard blew out in the end with them getting a few goals in the last to open it up, but I don’t think it truly reflects how close the game really was.
There was still plenty to celebrate in this brave performance. We saw Fred show off his 50 games of experience dominating the first quarter in the forward 50, with 3 marks and a great kick to the top of the square resulting in a goal. And Caleb’s passion and drive really stood out in this game with some real gut busting efforts. As a whole Gordon and I were really pleased with how the whole team kept fighting until the final siren which has been a real improvement in attitude from earlier in the season when we could drop our heads at times.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Jack, Aadhi, Archer, Emmalee and Jackson’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was great to celebrate with our 50 gamer Fred today. Let’s get back to work at training and bounce back next week.
Go Baysie!
Round 11
vs Lysterfield - July 6 2025
🟡🟢 Round 11 Match Report 🟢🟡
Our round 11 game had us playing away against Lysterfield. We knew it was going to be a tough game and without the experience of Hamish and Brodie missing due to illness, it was only going to be a bigger challenge as they’ve played really important roles for the team this season.
We felt we still had the quality of players on the team to take it to them and before the game spoke about how last year at almost the exact same stage of the season we came to their home ground and were the first team to beat them for the season. That was the win that really helped us to see what we were capable of and launched us to the premiership. We were led by Levi T and Jack as captains and whilst the result wasn’t what we were after there were some real positives to take away from the game.
Gordon and I really put a focus on us always celebrating the little wins, not just what's happening on the scoreboard, and to continue to have fun and get around our teammates throughout the game. There were some great efforts to celebrate throughout this game, we saw a blistering 50 metre run from Phoenix as she weaved her way around opposition players, it was really exciting to watch. And in the last when asked to take the game on and play more aggressively, we saw another cracking run from Caleb from the backline all the way down the wing, again it was really exciting play.
A huge thank you to Phoenix for helping us out today, you always show a lot of talent and determination when you play up for us.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Mitchell, Archer, and Josh O’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
It was a tough result to finish on heading into the school holiday break. But it’s a good chance to rest and reset before some crucial games to finish the season to try and scrape into the finals. We’ll get back to training in the second week of school holidays ready to finish the season strong!
Go Baysie!
Round 13
vs Chirnside Park - July 27 2024
🟡🟢 Round 13 Match Report 🟢🟡
Round 13 was a crucial game in our season up against tough opposition in Chirnside Park, we needed the win to keep our finals chances alive.
Our captains for this important game were Jackson and Brodie, a mix of new talent and experience and they led us well throughout the game. We knew we were going to have a tough game on our hands as their season was on the line as well.
The game was exactly what the build up suggested it might be, it was a real tussle throughout with them getting a lead and us pegging it back for them to kick away and open up the lead again. We kept fighting though and at 3 quarter time we asked for your all and you certainly delivered. We kept coming and fought until the very end, unfortunately falling just short going down by 4 points.
The game was a bit of a reflection of our season in a way, just needing to be better in some moments throughout and taking our chances when they presented.
Thank you to Phoenix and Randall for helping us out again, you have both played important roles for us throughout the season and add some extra energy and excitement to our team.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Jack, Jackson, and Wes’s families for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
Regardless of the result, we were so very proud of the team effort and the improvement we’ve continued to see in keeping our heads up and fighting until the final siren. One last chance to finish the season on a high, let’s get the win next week!
Go Baysie!
Round 14
vs North Ringwood - August 3 2025
🟡🟢 Round 14 Match Report 🟢🟡
Our round 14 match against North Ringwood would unfortunately be our last for the season, with us falling just short of making the finals. Our captain for the game was Levi F and we spoke before the game about enjoying and celebrating the little wins throughout the game and having some fun.
We took the opportunity to mix up positions on the ground and allow some players who had specific roles for the team this season to decide where they would like to play. We knew it was going to be a tough physical game and it certainly proved to be that. Caleb wasn’t willing to shy away from the contest however, and started the game with a huge clash which would have made the opposition think twice about crossing him again, and set the tempo for the team to follow.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to match their physicality at times in the game and they got off to a quick start. With us well beaten by half time we asked for more effort and support as a whole rather than leaving it to just a few and the response in the third was just outstanding. We completely turned the game around and dominated the third quarter with 4 goals to none and we looked right back in it. It wasn’t to be though with them getting away from us again in the last quarter.
Gordon and I were so proud of the effort given in today’s game, especially after half time. The grit, determination and courage shown to keep fighting, taking hit after hit, and to get up and keep going was just fantastic. We had Luke on his toes today with some brutal hits and I’m sure we have some pretty sore kids following the game.
We’ve mentioned it a few times this season, but I think it’s really important to keep calling it out. The way the kids go about it week after week, the spirit they play the game, tough but fair, having fun and enjoying being part of the team with each other is what truly makes us proud. We are so fortunate to be part of a team with such great kids and families to support, so thank you all for what you bring.
A huge thank you to our team officials who give up their time every week and to our parent helpers on the day, Jackson, Anmar, Lincoln, Levi F and Levi T’s family for helping to ensure our kids get to play and enjoy the game.
Although we didn’t get to sing the team song one last time this season, it was great to still huddle up and belt out Happy Birthday to Levi F who is celebrating his birthday tomorrow, Happy Birthday Fitzy!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our end of season dinner and again on presentation day to celebrate what has been a great season.
Go Baysie!
