Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 5, 2018

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs The Basin.

I am very excited to take over the coaching reigns from Paul. Given our re-grading this week and a new coach, we took the opportunity to reset.

At training, Tuesday’s session was cut a little short by photos, and Thursday’s session was indoors for an hour and finished early due to the rain. At Thursday’s session, we discussed team culture, and the girls chose three values they want to live by as a team: Team First, Respect, and Passion.

This week we played The Basin at home. With the help of Charli and Chya from the Under 14s, we were able to field 14 girls with one girl on the bench.

Our leadership group performed well: Chloe with run and bounce and breaking packs; Ez was again solid all around the ground including safe marks in the backline and lots of instruction on the ground; and Darcy, who despite being injured gave us the option of running a bench, and competed hard with limited opportunity on the ground. Our smaller brigade Jaslyn, Caitlin, Kayla and Rhian continued their consistent good form. Their speed and second efforts kept us in many contests.

I’ve come to expect our under 14 girls to play well, and once again they didn’t disappoint. Charli was fantastic in the backline, and Chya worked her way into the contest really well, finishing with a strong last quarter. Emily C-T continues to impress with her second and third efforts. Her determination resulted in our first goal of the season, great reward for our whole team who worked hard all game, and managed to trap the ball in our forward line quite a few times. Emily P and Emma also had valuable contributions throughout the game.

The final score saw The Basin defeating our girls 9.18-72 to 1.3-9.

At training this week we will be focusing on talk, kicking technique, and one on one footy.

Thank you to our runner Tori, water boy and girl Aiden and Summer, goal umpire Alan, umpire escort Shane, boundary umpire Lochlon, trainer Craig and team manager Mandy. Thanks also to Paul for his time and effort in taking the girls through pre-season and up until Round 4.

We’ve got a core group of really good players, parents and officials, and I’m really excited about working towards our continued improvement.
