Frequently Asked Questions

  • Bayswater Auskick Introduction
Bayswater Junior Football Club Auskick is in its fifth official season.

At the end of the 2017 season, Bayswater and Bayswater North Auskick clinics merged to form a new clinic held at the Bayswater Junior Football Oval and moved to Friday nights under lights.

We hold the clinic in the middle of the oval shared with the under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s who start at 6pm.

It’s a great family environment, kids enjoying footy with the offering of food, raffles and drinks during the evening.

We have lots installed for the girls and boys, specifically fun, friendships and football. Should you have any issues during the season please feel free to reach of to myself via email or phone.

  • When does it start?
Auskick starts at 5:30pm. We encourage everyone to come down 15 minutes earlier to allow time to sign in and have kick to kick with your child. Check the calendar section for the starting dates.
  • Where is it held?
Auskick is run on the Bayswater Junior Football Ground oval off Mountain Hwy, Bayswater entry via Jim Abernethy Memorial Drive (opposite the train park)

    Parking

The car park at behind the club rooms has been upgraded last year allowing for a greater number of car parks than previous years. Should this car park become full, there is ample car parks available within the senior ground (Marie Wallace Bayswater Oval) off Bayswater Rd. Access to the junior oval via the footbridge. There is secure lighting between the two grounds.

  • What to wear?
There is no set uniform for Auskick sessions, just ensure your child is comfortable to be able to participate in all activities. We recommend sports clothing and either runners or footy boots. Many participants choose to wear their AFL team’s colours and jumpers.
  • What to do when you first arrive?
There will be a sign in table near the front of the club rooms. Please sign your child(ren) in then peel off the name tag for your child and place on their jumper. The name tags are for the parent activity helpers, coaches and other participants to learn the children’s names during the season.

At 5:30PM the siren/hooter will be heard, we ask all the Auskickers to line up in front of the marked area in front of the club rooms. Each Level of Auskick will have their own area to sit which will be displayed.

Special mentions and awards from the previous clinic will be handed out, then each level will be taken out to their appropriate zones on the oval for the clinic.

Upon completion of the night, we ask that all children sanitise their hands again before leaving.

  • What to expect in a typical session?
The NAB AFL Auskick program has been designed to let kids learn through play. During weekly sessions kids build fundamental motor skills and learn what it means to play as part of a team. Though session plans vary week-to-week, most will incorporate elements of structured skill development along with free play opportunities. We aim for small groups allowing as much ball time as possible during each session. Above all, we aim for each child to have fun!

Auskick has three levels which are designed to be delivered over three or more years of participation.

Level 1 is designed for Auskickers turning five and six in this season – meaning Auskickers may do Level 1 for two seasons. We will generally finish Auskick at 6.30PM for this group.

Level 2 is designed for Auskickers turning seven in that season and may or may not have participated in a previous year of Auskick.

Level 3 is designed for Auskickers turning eight and above in that season.

The games and activities are designed to suit the skill level of multiple age groups.
Each Level will have 4 x ~10 minute activities, with a grid game at the start or end of each session. Grid games are mini, non-contact games of football.

  • Can parents get involved?

Definitely! Parents are the driving force behind our Bayswater JFC NAB AFL Auskick clinic. Their role as coordinators, coaches and volunteers is fundamental to the success of the program.

Everyone at the clinic are mothers, fathers, big brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties and grandparents. We aim to create family environment where everyone can get involved.

As a parent, we encourage you to get involved in your child’s Auskick program. You do not need any previous experience to assist the centre coordinator or the coaching coordinators. We aim to
involve parents as much as possible in our weekly sessions from practicing the skills with your kids, to participating in the fun games we play throughout the season.

Your experience as a parent is all you need to be a valuable volunteer!

    We are always looking for
    • New coaches (requires WWCC)
    • Activity Helpers (require WWCC)
    • BBQ and canteen assistance
    • Assistance in packing up
    • Administration assistance

Contact your coordinator for more information on how you can help.

A roster will be drawn up for Canteen and BBQ assistance. Money raised from canteen and BBQ go right back into the clinic providing equipment such as balls, equipment, trophies and everything
that’s required to run the clinic for the season.

  • Bad Weather at Auskick
Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather. Auskick will still be run in slight rain. Auskick sessions will be cancelled in the event of severe weather, such as a thunder storm or hail. Families will be notified that the session will be cancelled at 3PM on Friday nights via email and our Facebook page.
  • NAB AFL Auskick Rules Game
We are planning half time games on during the Bayswater under 19’s matches (Saturday’s) as well as games during the VFL Box Hill Hawks games. We should be allocated an AFL 1/2 time game later in the year, however yet to receive confirmation regarding this.
