Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 9, 2018

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs Glen Waverley Rovers.

This week we had our full list of 13 available, with an injured Kayla volunteering to play off the bench if needed. To make up the numbers we were joined by Torey, Charli and Chya from the Under 14s.

We knew this was going to be a tough game, but there were real signs of improvement since the last time we played Glen Waverley. In the past against the really strong teams, our forward line would rarely see the ball. But as we all improve, it’s fantastic to see the girls starting to win clearances and transition the ball well, generating scoring opportunities. Based on what I can hear from the bench, and feedback from the playing group, I am really pleased that more and more girls are starting to use their voice on the field. Given our low numbers, we often have to run harder than our opposition, but we always seem to play consistently across the four quarters. This week, we finished strong, matching Glen Waverley in the last quarter.

Another real team effort saw all our girls contesting well. Despite having ankle problems all week, Rhian continued her excellent form and kicked her first goal for the club. Emily CT, Ez and Chloe also made big contributions, and Darcy played her best game for a while. Torey, Charli and Chya all backed up from their previous game, Torey rising to the challenge of giving us some drive in the middle of the ground.

The game was played in good spirits, with both sides having fun diving into the mud after the final siren. Final scores saw Bayswater 1.3-9 defeated by Glen Waverley Rovers 12.20-92.

It might just be a coincidence, but the girls who regularly train hard are the the girls who are consistently among our best players. With only four games to go, I’d really love to see as many girls at training, working as hard as we can.

Thank you to our runner Tori, water boy and girl Aidyn and Summer, goal umpire Anthony, umpire escort Shane, boundary umpire Lochlon, trainer Craig (with special guest star Mark) and team manager Mandy.
