Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 10, 2018

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs East Ringwood.

This week we were able to field a side of 14, including our Under 14 regulars Charli and Chya.

This was a game of two halves for us. In spite of our defensive efforts, East Ringwood got off to a good start, with the score at half time showing us trailing 46 to 7. I set the challenge of scoring a goal in each of the final two quarters. We came really close in the third quarter with several good attacking moves. Whilst our reward was only two points for the quarter, we held our opponents scoreless, meaning we won the quarter. The final quarter saw each team kicking two goals, including a goal after the siren by Jaslyn.

Once again, a great team effort with everyone contributing. As a player, I’m sure it’s nice to be named in the best players after a game. But as a coach, I don’t care about how good you are: I’m looking for effort and improvement from every single player on the list, regardless of talent or ability. If you’re putting in the effort, and getting better as an individual, then you are making us a better team, and you are earning respect. Special shout out to Alanna and Tahlia this week. Alanna demonstrates that she listens to instructions, and is starting to use really good judgement on the backline with her positioning and defensive play, saving multiple goals on the weekend. Tahlia really used her strength well in the forward line, keeping her opponent out of several contests, and bringing her team mates into the game.

Final scores saw East Ringwood 8.13-61 defeat Bayswater 3.4-22.

We have Mitcham at home this week, in what should be a really competitive game. Unfortunately, Rhian has succumbed to her ankle injury, and will be out for a week.

Thank you to our runner Tori, water boy and girl Jake and Summer, goal umpire Frank, umpire escort Shane, boundary umpire Lochlon, trainer Craig and team manager Mandy.
