Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 12, 2018

U16 Girls – The Basin vs Bayswater.

With Holly attending a wedding this weekend we took the field with 12 players.

We got off to a very nervous start, with The Basin kicking five goals before we settled into the game in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Chloe had to come off early in the game due to a heavy concussion, which saw her at hospital well into the evening, leaving us with just 11 fit players.

Although we won the second quarter, The Basin were too good for us, with final scores seeing The Basin 10.15-75 defeat Bayswater 2.5-17. Once again though, this game was an improvement on the last time we played The Basin, with a smaller overall margin and much better play in general. We trapped the ball in our forward line for large parts of the game, unfortunately not getting enough reward for our efforts, with The Basin often scoring quickly on the counter punch.

Solid games from Ez patrolling the backline, and Emily CT in the ruck. I was really pleased with how players like Caitlin, Jaslyn, Emily P, Rhian and Emma were prepared to run hard both ways, tackling and fighting for the ball when we didn’t have it and providing options when we did have it. A highlight late in the game was provided by Emma and Emily P, sharing the ball down the wing, just missing the last handball which probably would have given us goal of the year!

Thank you to our runner Tori, water girls Summer and Skye, goal umpire Shane, boundary umpire Lochlon, trainer Craig and team manager Mandy, and to Beccy who stood in after Mandy had to leave early.
