Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 4, 2019

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs Boronia/Knox

Our last grading game, Round Four was another home game and another great day for footy. We missed Chenoa (injury) and Charlie and Chya (other commitments), but had help from our Under 14s Indah, Rana, Renee and Torey. As usual, we were outnumbered with Boronia/Knox having quite a few more than our 15 players. Jaslyn captained the team for the day.

We knew we were in for a tough contest, as the Boronia team we played in our practice match had since merged with Knox, who came down from a higher division. We got off to a shaky start, with Boronia/Knox scoring a goal inside the first minute of the game. We steadied from there and held our own for the rest of the quarter.

Once again we had a lot of players getting their hands on the ball, and some good transitions in general play. Jaslyn played a fantastic captain’s game, holding the backline together under a lot of pressure, and Sienna has showed great improvement after only a few games, using her strength to bump and tackle really well around the ground and taking some strong marks. I was also pleased with Izzy’s efforts after half time, when I challenged her to attack the ball a bit harder when it was near her, which she did when the opportunity was there. Credit to Chloe as well, who copped a couple of whacks off the ball, but shook them off and just continued to play hard. Solid games as well from Rhian, Elise and Darcy. I heard plenty of comments from our Under 16 girls about the under 14s who joined us, with the consensus being that they all played really well, and we really appreciated having their help.

Unfortunately, we racked up quite a few injuries by the end of the game, with Chloe having to leave the ground after an arm injury, Elise with a corkie, Em Prior with a shoulder injury, Em CT battered and bruised, Rhian carrying a sore back into the game, Jaslyn with a head knock, Darcy with lots of bruising and Indah rolling an ankle at the end of the game. Final scores saw Boronia/Knox run out winners 1.2-8 to 10.15-75.

Thank you to our U14s Indah, Rana, Renee and Torey, water carrier Emily, trainer Jodie and team manager Mandy, assistant coach and runner Ben, and our other parent helpers on the day.
