Match Report – Under 12 – Round 14, 2019

U12 – Rowville Knights vs Bayswater

Our final home and away game, and a battle for top spot – at the beginning of the season I wouldn’t have dreamed of being in this position, but their hard work and great teamwork has provided the boys with this wonderful opportunity.

Beginning with a full list of 20 (an unusual occurrence for us) the boys started well against the competition benchmark. Rowville have a number of very good players and play a really good running style, so we were up against it early. Rowville kicked the first goal and were on the attack, but some great team play saw Jackson handball to Josh over the top for our first goal against the run of play. At quarter time we were down 2.3 to 1.0.

The second quarter saw our intensity lift a little, and the high pressure and running, particularly of our midfielders, started to worry the opposition a little. A great soccer goal from Jackson, and some more great teamwork upfield saw our forwards working hard, our backline playing superbly, holding Rowville scoreless and we went into half time leading 4.2 to 2.3.

The third quarter was a great battle of the league’s two leading teams, and both teams were playing like it. A real arm wrestle developed, and both teams managed to score a goal each, and we went into three quarter time holding on to our 5 point lead, 5.3 to 4.4. The highlight for the quarter was the very near goal to Fletcher after great forward pressure – we’ll keep trying!!

The last quarter was a mirror of the third, with some really great, tough Under 12 football. I asked the boys to remain calm and focus on their jobs, and that’s exactly what they did. Some wonderful concentration, great, hard work and great teamwork saw us level the quarter, and run out well-deserved 5 point winners. The boys should all be so very proud of their efforts, and we finish the home and away season on top of the ladder – an absolutely wonderful effort, boys.

Let’s all knuckle down now, as the ‘real’ stuff begins next week. In the meantime, enjoy this great achievement. I’m so very proud of all of you.
