Match Report – Under 12 Girls – Round 14, 2019

U12 Girls – Bayswater vs Norwood

Our last game of the season and after two very narrow losses we prevailed against Norwood at home to win 15 -7. A really consistent performance by the girls, winning the first three quarters and then losing the last after Norwood finally posted a goal as we were rotating players into different positions.

From the beginning of the season we have rotated all the girls to give everyone a chance to experience different playing positions. After the last two tough games and leading into the finals, we discussed playing a role for the team, be it a defender or forward, everyone must play the part required of them for the team to have success. It means learning how to play a certain position and why we need to do this. The girls really took the message on board and as it was another close game there was plenty of opportunity to be involved no matter where you played on the ground.

Our onballers were again fierce in their attack on the ball. Skye in the ruck helped Hailey and Matilda push forward on many occasions. Whilst we spent more time in our forward line than the oppositions, we couldn’t seem to get the ball through the goals as much as we had hoped. However a stand out effort from Elena playing on ball as she took her chances when moving forward to kick both of our goals.

Whilst kicking goals is great, the defense needs to stop the other team from doing the same. Our defenders for this game were rarely changed and made some crucial contests to help stop Norwood from scoring. A great effort from Kiara, Kayla, Sydney, Emily and Summer who helped each other and will again be looked to in the finals to do the same.

A fantastic regular season from the girls that ended with us singing our club song which everyone enjoys. We head into finals with everyone available and look forward to an even tougher match against Norwood again in the first elimination final.

Our HELP philosophy as well as unselfish acts will play a big part in how we perform. However, the enjoyment the girls have had this season getting to know new friends will ultimately be their greatest achievement. WELL DONE GIRLS ON A FANTASTIC SEASON SO FAR – 3RD PLACE ON THE LADDER AT THE END OF THE SEASON!
