U11 Mixed Match Report
Round 1
vs Boronia
A beautiful Sunday morning had us away at Boronia for rd 1.
Our game kicked off a little later than the 1005 start due to the game being played before
us.
Our real first competitive game saw us start off a little slow in the first quarter.
They scored a few goals but I never felt we were out of
the game, we had some great passages of play and controlled the ball quite well.
I kept telling the boys if we continue our plan the scoring will
come.
And it did. We won the last quarter kicking 2.2 to 0.0
Although we lost by 5 goals I kept telling the boys to keep their heads high as it
was a great game of footy and was only rd 1. Lots more to come.

Round 5
Round 5 saw us take on Upper Ferntree Gully, who have had some good wins during the grading games. With some key players out this week, l thought we put up a good fight against a well drilled opponent. Whilst we had some good minutes in each quarter, especially in the third quarter, which saw Ryan snag a couple goals, there was a little too much inconsistency for my liking throughout the game. This unfortunately cost us in the end.
Whilst we have some work to do, with hard work on the training track, getting some quality players back and working more as a team, I think that we will only keep improving.
Better players on the day were Xavier who batted hard in the ruck all game, Ryan who presented really well up forward, Eamon, Robert.W, Levi, Kayden and Frankie who worked tirelessly in the midfield and Robert.B who I though had his best game of the season, attacking the ball really hard.
Round 6
This week we came up with a theme. "It's all about your mates". I explained to the boys the meaning behind this was for them not to leave their mates to do all the work for them. Basically, when it's your turn, you must step up and help your mate out.
With Kai and Lucas coming back into the team this week, I thought if we could put enough pressure on for long enough, we would have a really good chance of winning this game.
During the first quarter Kilsyth got off to a fast start kicking the first couple goals. By half time we pegged it back too only bring down by a goal. Whilst we displayed some really good team work in the last two quarters, unfortunately Kilsyth's hard and fast running really stood out, with them taking a 28-point win.
Whilst we lost the game, I thought the team showed some really good signs moving forward. As a coach all I ask for each week is effort. If we keep giving effort for long enough during a game and never give up in any contest a win is just around the corner.
Some highlights throughout the game included Eamon's gut running in the third quarter. He had four or so bounces along the social club wing to set up Caleb to kick a goal.
Tyler's and Kai's endless tackles were outstanding, and really adhered to the theme of "it's all about your mates". They never stopped working for their mates for four quarters.
Areas identified to work on over the next couple weeks include:
1)Midfield and wings need to stay out of our forward line (we need to make it open for
our forwards to ensure the best opportunity to score).
2) Kicking the ball out of defence (we need to identify the
best targets to kick too).
3) Working harder for longer (chasing, tackling and linking up for longer periods of each quarter).
Enjoy the next couple Sundays off and we will see you back at training next Tuesday evening.

Round 8
The day started off with only having 14 players which wasn't the best of starts to celebrate Eamon's 50th game. None the less we had a game plan which I thought would work in our favor given North Ringwood having 9 players on the bench.
Whilst we only scored 3 points in the first quarter to North Ringwood's 2 goals, there were a lot of positive signs. I said to the team at the first break that if we continued to play how we did in the first quarter that we would be up at half time.
We went back out and played some really disciplined and exciting football. Not only the second quarter, but for the remainder of the game, which eventually got us our first win of the season.
There were some inspiring moments throughout the game which included:
Xavier's ruck work all game, Kai's tackling, Robert Welch playing his best game of the season, Levi kicking a couple goals up forward, Lucas dominating at centre half back, I could go on and on.....
Whilst I could highlight plenty more special players and moments throughout the game, there was no moment timelier and more special than with only minutes left in the game, Eamon in his 50th game ran down a player who was running into an open goal. "Come of the man, come of the hour".
Well done to all the players who worked really hard all game. As I said at training last night, we have set a standard now, and we must continue to work together to build on it.
See you all on Sunday.
Round 9
After a really good week on the training track and winning last weekend against Nth Ringwood, the boys were up and about for the two Robert's 50th games.
We got off to a great start against an undefeated Waverley. The tackle pressure and general team play was really exciting to watch. As the game went on, Waverley's run got the better of us, with them controlling most of the ground.
Whilst we lost the game, the boys played with high intensity and were brave.
A really good opportunity for a win against Mooroolbark on our home ground this weekend. If we can play for 4 quarters and link up around the ground better, I have no doubt we will get another win this Sunday.
Better players against Waverley included; Kai, Blake, Frankie, Xavier and Lucas.
Round 10
After several weeks of good consistent team football, the boys were ready for business after losing by two points against Mooroolbark a handful of weeks
earlier at home.
We came out and won possession, moving the ball really well to kick away to a four-goal lead come quarter time.
This was mirrored in the second quarter, where we doubled our score by following team instructions and playing for each other. At half time we were up by eight goals.
At the half time break, I explained to the boys that Mooroolbark would likely come out fired up after being blown away by us and that we needed to be ready for it.
This came to fruition and as discussed, they did come out hard. Whilst they applied more pressure than what they did in the first half, I was really proud that the team stood up to it. Whilst we didn't score a goal in the third, nor did they, putting us in a really good position at three quarter time.
In the last we again kicked away, and finished the game off by again playing team football and following instructions.
There were many team highlights throughout the game, including the tackling pressure by all and hitting targets around the ground. Keep up the good work all, and let's continue to work as a team and play for each other.
Round 11
vs Knox Falcons
Final Score: Bayswater 7.6 (48) defeated Knox Falcons 0.4 (4)
What a fantastic team performance from the team today against Knox Falcons!
From the first bounce, our players showed determination and teamwork,
setting the tone early with strong tackling and disciplined defence. The boys stuck their tackles with real intent, putting pressure on the Falcons and
winning crucial contests around the ground.
One of the highlights of the game was how well the team shared the ball. Whether it was linking up through the midfield or hitting targets in the
forward line, the ball movement was clean and confident. The players backed each other in, trusted their teammates, and played unselfish footy right across
the four quarters.
It was great to see so many passages of play where the team transitioned the ball from defence to attack with precision. The scoreboard reflected the
hard work, with the team finishing on 7 goals to Knox's 4 points.
Every player played their role and contributed to what was one of the most complete performances of the season so far. Well done, Baysie – keep
bringing that effort, pressure and teamwork into the final rounds!
Enjoy the week off, and it will be good to hopefully get a couple wins in the final two games of the season.
Round 12
We celebrated a milestone in style on Sunday, with a commanding 54-point victory over Upper Ferntree Gully to mark Kai’s 50th game. From the opening bounce, it was clear the boys were determined to make it a game to remember for their teammate.
Our movement was sharp throughout the day, linking up cleanly across the ground and making life difficult for the Upper Ferntree Gully defence.
A big difference this week was the improved communication, with players constantly working together, talking through plays and supporting each other in every contest. This lift in energy and teamwork translated into some of Bayswater’s best passages of play for the season.
Upper Ferntree Gully battled hard but couldn’t match our intensity or structure, with the hosts pulling away as the game went on thanks to genuine four-quarter effort and selfless team football.
A fantastic team performance capped off a special day for Kai. Every player contributed, and the spirit shown will give us plenty of confidence heading into the next round.
Final scores: Bayswater 12.3 (75) defeated Upper Ferntree Gully 3.3 (21
Round 13
Bayswater vs Kilsyth
Final Score: Bayswater 8.6 (54) def. Kilsyth 2.1 (13)
We produced a strong performance to defeat Kilsyth by 41 points in wet conditions, marking a special occasion for Tyler, Ryan, and Kayden as they celebrated their 50th games.
The team got off to a flying start, adjusting brilliantly to the slippery conditions and playing smart, tough footy early. The first quarter set the tone, with the boys applying consistent pressure and linking up well across the ground.
Kilsyth responded in the second term with renewed energy and some impressive team play, challenging our structures and forcing a mid-game reset. At half time, the message was clear — return to playing team-first football.
The second half was all Bayswater. The boys controlled the tempo, slowed the game down when needed, and worked hard off the ball to create space and opportunities. It was especially exciting to see Hunter and Mason slot their first ever goals in footy — a moment they’ll never forget.
With the regular season wrapping up, attention now turns to a solid block of training before the finals campaign begins. The team is building momentum at the right time, and belief is strong heading into August. Congratulations to the team on a great home and away season, and I look forward to see what the team can do over the next month of football.
Cheers,
