U16 Girls Match Report
Round 1
Welcome back girls. What a day it was for footy. Time to see all our pre-season work in action. We travelled down to Rowville to take on the Hawks. We
welcomed 2 new players in Olivia and Holly. Our new assistant coach Tiarnah made a strong start to her coaching career. Ryan took the role of trainer and
had a bit to do throughout the game. Rowville were a strong unit and put us on the back foot early. We had some really good pressure and at times moved the
ball quickly to give ourselves the best chance to score.
In the end they were just too strong for us.

Round 2
ANZAC round.
It was like a summers day. 26 degrees and full sunshine. We celebrated ANZAC day with a commemorative service before the game. The game
was played in high spirits and it was back and forth all day. The Knights started strong and had a good lead at qtr time. A few position changes in the 2nd
qtr sore us hit the score board a few times to make it an even contest.
The girls couldn’t get to the shade of the change rooms quick enough at
half time and they all deserved a drink. We came out strong in the 2nd half and our tackling pressure was relentless. Jess, Fenix and Ella all had big
tackles resulting in free kicks. Lily, Raelene, Fenix and Jess all kicked goals in the game and there were some great marks from Kira. In the end we went
down swinging but the Knights were just too good. Congratulations to Fenix for winning the ANZAC medal from Rowville Knights. And thanks to Evie, Emalee and
Tahlia from the under 14s for filling in.Thanks to Matilda for being the runner.

Round 3
Well, this game was played in stark contrast to last week. A heavy morning shower saw the ground wet and heavy under foot. However this brings our strength
to the forefront. Strong physical pressure. The small number out number was the order of the day, and that’s exactly what we delivered.
We
started strong in the first quarter with our defence standing up strong and Shay kicking an early goal.
In the 2nd quarter we changed a few things
around. The rucks Raelene and Grace were giving our midfielders first use of the ball. Shay was the beneficiary of some crafty forward work from Ella to put
the second goal on the board and Fenix put through our 3rd shortly after. Beaconsfield started the 2nd half strongly and managed to get a goal on the board.
But Ruby and Shay again answered with goals of their own. We went into the last quarter with a 3 goal lead, but Beaconsfield kept coming. Our pressure was
relentless and our back line was hard to get through. In the end we came away with a 13 point win.
