Match Report – Under 17 – Round 3, 2018

U17 Boys – Forest Hills vs Bayswater.

We knew coming into this week that it would be a challenge for our boys facing a bigger and stronger team in Forest Hills that were undefeated. They also had to contend with their coach Rob being away so myself and Johny Brown were their coaches this week.

Earlier in the week the coaches decided we would try to play a more accountable man on man footy this match, getting back to good old contested ball, tackling and pressuring the ball carrier. To the boys credit they listened and went out and gave everything to the game plan.

We were out classed but that didn’t matter, they boys tackled and harrassed and the Forest Hills players soon realised that they were going to have to work hard for the win.

The final scoreboard did not reflect the tremendous effort the boys provided. All players contributed as they needed to be accountable for their man and it showed as we were more competitive in all positions on the ground.

At three quarter time the margin was 65 points, the boys had given it all and were spent during the last quarter which lead to Forest Hills running away with the game.

Myself, Johny, parents and supporters were extremely proud of the efforts by the team. Let’s build on this and go out and apply the same pressure and have fun next week.

Special mention to Liam Epps for his 100th game this week. Congratulations Eppsy.

Finally thanks to Johny and all the support staff that helped me this week in my first coaching attempt, it was good fun but I’ll be happy to hand the reigns back to Rob next week.
