Match Report – Under 17 – Round 6, 2018

U17 Boys – Bayswater vs The Basin Green.
On a very cold and wet Sunday afternoon the under 17s took on the Basin in our round 6 home game.
A lot of fumbling and missed targets with the wet ball saw the boys make another slow start and despite applying plenty of pressure we found ourselves a goal down at 1/4 time.
The second quarter was again hotly contested but with the boys gaining the upper hand in contested ball we had more forward entries and went to half time with a 1 point lead.
Although we again had the majority of the play in the third quarter we struggled to capitalise as a combination of a sound defensive structure for the Basin and some missed chances for us resulted in them go into the final break leading by a goal.
In the final qtr the boys threw everything at the contest but with a few injuries limiting our midfield, including Matt Elvin coming from the ground due to a head knock, and with the rain increasing the score was level going into the last few minutes.
The final minutes were frantic and fiercely contested. Unfortunately for the boys two late goals meant the Basin held on for a 12 point win.
A fantastic effort but unfortunately another disappointing result.
With back to back close games the boys are really starting to gel as a team and we look forward to our next contest against Upper Ferntree Gully.
