Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 6, 2019

U16 Girls – Forest Hill vs Bayswater

This Round we played Forest Hill away, with Charli out due to illness, leaving us with just 13 players. Forest Hill agreed to play 13 a side. Sienna captained our side.

Our focus this week was to be first to pick up the ball, rather than waiting for our opponent to pick it up so we could tackle them, and the whole team rose to the challenge. Everyone, without exception, at least once attacked the ball hard, including Izzy who had very limited opportunities on the forward line. I was pleased with the willingness to run and take some risks. Three different players had a bounce during the game. Rhian almost had goal of the year, dodging a player, taking three bounces and just missing with her kick. Some good one-twos as well, with Em P using her voice well in this area.

Unfortunately, some bad skill errors really let us down, with dropped marks and handball receives taking the pressure off our opponents regularly throughout the game. On the plus side, we had quite a few players play their best games for a while. Chya was a standout, competing hard, and often at the bottom of the pack. Alanna played another really good defensive game. Elise and Chenoa continued their good form, and our senior players were consistent as usual.

Final scores saw Forest Hill victorious 7.15-57 to 0.3-3.

Thank you to our trainer Jodie and team manager Mandy, assistant coach and runner Ben, and our other parent helpers on the day.
