Match Report – Under 12 – Round 6, 2019

U12 – Bayswater vs South Croydon

Our Round 6 game saw us playing our home game on the Bayswater Senior Oval which was a big thrill for a number of our boys. For the 5th time in 6 games we started slowly, and found ourselves down at quarter time after kicking into a breeze, and with a one point lead at half time 2.5 to 2.4.

We had a talk at half time about keeping our focus on what we can control – our effort and our defensive pressure – and playing the good team football that we do when we play our best. The second half was much better, and our team efforts started to result in scores. The big ground allowed the boys to showcase how our running game can work, and the early hard work of Chad and Alex paid off with them getting goals. Cody, Toby and Campbell also all stepped up, and Josh showed us what he can do in the middle.

The last half saw Jamie run wild again and the final scores didn’t really reflect how hard South Croydon played and the effort they put in. The game finished with Jackson’s freakish banana goal from the boundary right on the final siren!

A great team effort after another slow start – and boys, we MUST all learn to keep our positions and do the team things when we need them. We also need to focus more on what we can control and play our footy and not on things like ladder positions and scores.
Final Scores:

  • Bayswater 9.13.67
  • South Croydon 2.6.18

Goal kickers: Jamie Gilchrist 5 Chad Hannan 2, Alex Samos 1, Jackson Peters 1
Best Team Players: Jackson Peters, Chad Hannan, Toby Matthews, Campbell Young, David Derham
