Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 7, 2019

U16 Girls – Bayswater vs Norwood

A late start for our Round 7 game with Chloe leading from the front against ladder leaders Norwood. Once again our team was topped up with U14 players Rana, Renee and Torey. Norwood had 15 players, with one arriving after half time, so we had two players on the bench for the first half, and one for the second half.

In what was our best half of football for the season so far, fantastic pressure in the centre and forward line meant we had the ball trapped in our forward line for most of the first half. Despite several opportunities, we could only manage one goal for the half, with Norwood scoring more easily when they went forward. Our backline was under a bit more pressure in the second half, but worked hard, and only conceded two goals in each of the final two quarters. Once again our senior players played well. Some examples include Rhian providing multiple scoring chances in the forward line; Em P showing what an advantage it is to be able to kick on her non-preferred foot several times during the match and Jordan giving us a bit of a spark when moved into the forward line late in the game. Chenoa had a good game in the backline, always keeping the ball in front of her, and Charli made a solid return after some time out with illness.

We finished the game on a sour note, with Em P injuring her already broken fingers, Chloe on the receiving end of a couple of corkies and Em CT injuring her thumb. As the rain started falling after the final siren, the scoreboard showed Norwood winners 1.3-9 to 8.4-52.

Thank you to our U14s Rana, Renee and Torey, water carrier Aidyn, trainer Mark (filling in for Jodie) and team manager Mandy, assistant coach and runner Ben, and our other parent helpers on the day.
