Match Report – Under 12 – Round 9, 2019

U12 – Forest Hill vs Bayswater

We ventured back to Forest Hill again for our Round 9 match to face the team who had given us the most trouble earlier in the season. Fronting up for Zyon’s 50th game as well, we talked before the game about the need to be strong in the mind and body – not letting the opponents just push us out of the way, and not worrying about what they might say or do to put us off our game.

It’s wonderful to see the boys developing as individuals, and more importantly as a team as the season unfolds. After starting well in the first quarter, there were good signs that the boys were not only ‘switched on’, but prepared to play for each other. We came in at half time holding a handy 28 point lead, 5.5 to 1.1.

The second half produced some of the best team football I have seen from a young group. They ran, chased, handballed and tackled for each other, and it soon became obvious that their enthusiasm was going to carry them a long way. As coaches we keep emphasising the need to focus on our game, rather than on results and ladder positions, and the boys played exactly as we’d hoped. With great efforts from Campbell (2 goals), Cody and Peppers (1 goal each) and great leadership from David, Malakai, Jamie, Jackson, Owen, Chad and Zyon (among many others), we ran away with our best win of the season – we’re so very proud of all the boys.

Final Scores:

  • Forest Hill 1.3.9
