Match Report – Under 16 Girls – Round 9, 2019

U16 Girls – Waverley Blues vs Bayswater

For Round 9, we ventured out to Pinewood Reserve to play Waverley Blues. We had only nine available players this week, due to injuries, school camps and other circumstances. Thanks to Waverley Blues who supported us by giving us players regularly during the match, so we could get a game on. The Waverley Blues players tried hard when they were playing for us. Our U14s Claire and Mikybie joined us after quarter time.

Once again we had to play some of our players in different roles this week. Elise was a standout at full back for a large part of the game, taking several safe marks and zoning off well. Charli also played well in the backline, a highlight being her kickouts from full back, regularly hitting up Rhian or Chloe. Claire and Mikybie were solid contributors, playing beside each other in defence. Chloe provided her usual drive, and chased hard when she didn’t have the ball. Jaslyn and Rhian were also at their usual high standard, with Rhian finishing the game with a typical competitive passage of play where she laid three or four tackles in a row.

Despite our best efforts, Waverley Blues outplayed us for most of the game, and because we were unable to field enough players, took the points by forfeit. Undeterred by the scoreboard, I was really proud of our effort and attitude. Everyone tried hard and kept their heads up for the whole game.

Thank you to our U14s Claire, Mikybie, water carrier Em CT, trainer Beccy, filling in for Jodie and team manager Mandy, assistant coach and runner Ben, and our other parent helpers on the day.
