Match Report – Under 12 – Preliminary Final, 2019

U12 – Bayswater vs Forest Hill

The Preliminary Final saw us facing Forest Hill, a team that had given us our biggest loss of the year earlier in the season. Before the game we spoke about being ready for physical football, and keeping calm under pressure, which has become our focus in the latter half of the season.

Kicking into a bit of a wind in the first quarter, we were a bit nervous until we saw the effort and intent of our boys – it was clear that they’d come to play again. Quarter time we led 3.3 to 0.1, and we were pleased with the signs.

The second quarter brought the same intensity, and at half time we were leading 6.8 to 0.1. Again, we chose to give a few boys a rest in the third quarter and try a few positional changes, and while this allowed Forest Hill to kick a couple of goals, the boys were still in control of the game and very much switched on, and up for the challenge.

The final quarter saw us run away with the result a bit, and gave us a lot of hope and optimism for next week. A really good team effort, but particularly good work from Chad at full back, Malakai and David on the ball, Cody on a wing, and Campbell up forward.

It’s been especially pleasing to see the boys continuing to improve each week, and we really think we’re playing our best football for the year – with another gear to go. Congratulations, boys – you’ve made a Grand Final!! Let’s go Baysie!!
