U9s Mixed Rd1 Match Report…

Round 1 v Rowville

Today marked the first junior football match all players have played, even for those that joined the under 8’s side last year, which was cancelled due to Covid-19.  All players were super excited to represent the club and we managed to have our first game at home.  The weather gods were not so optimistic, and the morning was raining, cold and windy.  Not the weather anyone wants for the first experience to football.  This did not stop our players run out on the field and play an awesome match of football.

Friday’s training session focused on outnumbering the contest, teaching the players the principle of support by moving to create advantage space.

During the game, all players were looking to handball to a teammate in space (which was hard to grasp), and looking to kick the ball into open space, keeping the ball moving, and ultimately kicking many goals.  The ball was shared around equally among all players.

Both Rob and I saw learnings from the previous training session be carried out on gameday, which is great to see.

Looking forward to Round 2
